Folliculitis can appear anywhere on the body that there are hair follicles, so it can look different depending on whether it's on the scalp, the chin, the back, upper arms, chest or elsewhere!
It can appear as shaving rash, acne around the hairline, spots at the back of the neck, bumpy areas on the chin, rashes on the genital area, or scabs on the scalp.
When it appears on the scalp, its symptoms include:
- small red pimples
- pustules/pus-filled sores or spots
- inflamed, red or hot rashes
- swelling and pain
- itching, burning sensations
- crusty sores
