One, perhaps surprising, result of lockdown is that being stuck at home can be terrible for the skin!
We’ve covered the challenges of dry skin if you’re washing your hands and using sanitiser regularly throughout the day before (see Six Top Tips To Soothe Irritation From Hand Sanitiser) but why should being in the house all day dehydrate our skin so much?
1. GET SOME FRESH AIR!
A stuffy centrally-heated house is intensely dehydrating, so open your window, get the air circulating. Get out into the open if you possibly can, even if it’s just to sit outside your door with a cuppa.
2. MOISTURISE REGULARLY
Remember to top up with your chosen moisturiser throughout the day. It might be worth setting an alarm on your phone three times a day to remind yourself!
3. HUMIDIFY YOUR HOUSE
If your environment indoors is particularly dry, then invest in a humidifier and set it to about 60%.
4. USE BALMS NOT CREAMS
The oilier the moisturiser, the more effective. If you use an anhydrous balm, salve or ointment rather than a water-based lotion or cream, you’re doubling down on effectiveness, softening skin and sealing in the moisture.
5. DON’T SOAK TOO LONG OR TOO HOT!
It can be tempting to slip into a long, hot bath, but your skin won’t thank you! Both heat and water can strip the oils from your skin, leaving it dry and itchy. Keep baths or showers to 10 minutes, don’t overdo the heat and slather on the moisturiser while your skin is still slightly damp from drying. Our Bath & Body Oil can help here, as it’s easy and quick to apply!
